Department of Juvenile Services and Department of Natural Resources Restoration Project

On April 26, 2008, 10 youth from the Victor Cullen Center along with four staff members: John Hasty, Antoinette Pigatt, Richard Kunkel, and George Cramer, participated in a tree planting program at Cunningham Falls State Park. The project was centered around replanting parts of Cunningham Falls that had been damaged by a storm. The youth enjoyed the experience since many of them had never been to a State Park and had never seen some of the wild life that live in the park. The activity was a great experience for the youth, who participated in a positive way toward helping the community. The youth would like to continue to participate in community service projects with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Discussion is in the works for Victor Cullen Center to work with the DNR at several of the state parks in the region, including Cummingham Falls and the Appalachian Trail.

Thanks to Superintendent Helen Mency and Assistant Superintendent Mathew Fonseca for their help with this project.
