Food of the Month ​

Each month, Department of Juvenile Services Director of Food and Nutrition Patricia Faught and her staff develop a Food of the Month theme for Juvenile Services food managers in the facility cafeterias. The purpose of the Food of the Month is to promote nutrition within department youths' diet. This food item is chosen based on consideration of and correlation to the traditions of different ethnic Heritage Months.

January Food of the Month - Oatmeal

Foods that contain fiber, such as whole grains, may reduce the risk of many diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Consuming whole grains may also aid in weight management.

Oatmeal is a delicious and easy way to get someof your whole-grains and other important nutrients. Oats contain beta-glucan, a type of fiber that's been shown to help lower cholesterol when eaten regularly. Oats are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, folate, and potassium. Celebrate National Oatmeal Month and start the New Year by getting your whole grains! Try a bowl for breakfast today!
